Shortage of trained nut pluckers is a grim farm sector problem in Kerala but for 37-year-old Selvin Chacko coconut plucking is a hi-tech profession involving car, mobile and even a dedicated website.
While many youngsters looked down upon coconut plucking as a less-esteemed career, Selvin from Changanassery has opted for it with "career pride and pleasure" and keeping in tune with the changing times he is using modern facilities like mobile phone and website to get connected to customers.
Travelling in the car helps him save time as he can rush from one coconut garden to the next. Selvin says he climbs 40 to 45 trees a day earning not less than Rs 30,000 a month. His phone number and profile are available on a website launched in the name of 'Changathikoottam', a gathering of trained coconut pluckers.
A failed business man, Selvin said coconut plucking has helped him to rebuild his life.

The 5th edition of the DLF Indian Premier League will begin today, with the first match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
The star-studded opening ceremony was held yesterday, with all captains (both old and new) all present and judging by the photograph, VERY serious about the task they were employed for.. to win that cup.
My bet is on the Royal Challengers Bangalore, probably the unluckiest team in the IPL, losing in 2 finals and once in the semi's (they did win the 3rd place though) and of course the initial edition in which they were 2nd from the bottom.
Priceless moments it was; staying up late to watch Henry back in Arsenal colors; and yes he did get to play... n boy, did he play !
Vintage goal.. Vintage Henry... Vintage Arsenal... Respect... for the love of the game...
One could just see, from the celebrations, how much this meant to him....
